Dickman, Frank

Welcome to my Homepage! My responsibilities include all  students grades 9-12 whose last names begin with the letters A through L. You may reach me at fdickman@tamaquasd.org.

During the 1st quarter my time is devoted to teaching guidance seminars, scheduling the ASVAB assessment and completing yearly visits with all of the senior and junior students. This is primarily done during the months of August, September and October. Starting in November my focus shifts towards the large number of post-secondary school applications being submitted. National and State level scholarships are also made available to students at this time. Examples of these types of scholarships would include the Coca Cola, the Prudential Leadership, the PENCON, Big 33, etc... Junior yearly visits are finishing up during the month of November with sophomore yearly visits completed during the month of December.

After the Christmas break mid year grade reports are sent to all colleges. Any senior students with the potential to fail a required course for the year have letters sent to their parents. This time of year also sparks the beginning of the Night of Achievement Awards Program Scholarships. Approximately three to four scholarships are advertised each week and students are given approximately one month to complete each scholarship. A detailed list of scholarships currently available can be found in the Guidance section of this site.

Towards the end of February/beginning of March course selection and the Votech application process occurs. Each of the School Counselors provides a presentation for course selection in your child's Social Studies class. Students are given approximately two weeks to meet with their teachers and then have their parents sign off on the sheets before submitting them to the Guidance Office for review.

As mentioned previously, the Votech application process is also completed during this time. Students who complete an application will have their application processed usually by the middle of February. The Schuylkill Technology Center then makes the determination of acceptance during the month of March. Students accepted into the program will typically be notified by the middle of April.

The second Monday in May marks our annual Night of Achievement Awards Program. It has been traditionally held in the Tamaqua Area Auditorium. Any student chosen to receive a scholarship or award is invited to this event. Students are given invitations two weeks prior to the event. In recent years we have awarded over 80 scholarships totaling in excess of $230,000.

Early May also brings Advanced Placement testing for students enrolled in "AP" courses. Most examinations occur during the first two weeks of the month and are completed digitially.

Thank you for taking the time to read this brief overview of my scheduled activities. I look forward in helping your child plan their future!
